Guided Walk along the Wye Valley Walk - 12th April 2026
Dyddiad hysbysu:
April 12, 2026
Y Llwybr:
O Dyndyrn i Gas-gwent
As part of Chepstow Walking Festival join artist Lucy Burden, and Ruth Waycott from the Wye Valley National Landscape Team, for this walk through the landscapes which have inspired artists (and Lucy) since the days of the Picturesque Wye Tour. Find out what artists like William Gilpin carried in their luggage and why they used a Claude glass. We will be following sections of the Wye Valley Walk and taking in the stunning Eagle’s Nest viewpoint, which Lucy painted for her current exhibition at Chepstow Museum - ‘Flow/Liff - The River Wye from Source to Sea'. Our return to Chepstow will be across the Piercefield estate, one of the most outstanding examples of 18th century picturesque landscapes in Britain. The walk will finish at Chepstow Museum where we will pay a visit to Lucy’s exhibition of paintings inspired by her recent rambles along the Wye Valley Walk. Tickets: https://ow.ly/F1zM50YoKFJ

O Dyndyrn i Gas-gwent
There is a lovely backstory to 'Flow / Llif' - the exhibition currently on display at Chepstow Museum. Last year, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Wye Valley Walk, we led a linear ramble along its 138 miles. More than 100 people joined us, some dipping in and out of the day walks, some completing the whole trail. Among them were artist Lucy Burden and amateur filmmaker Steve Bennett, and the rest, as they say, is history! For anyone who has walked sections of the Wye Valley Walk 'Flow' ('Liff' in Welsh) will transport you instantly back to the path and those quiet places and beautiful views. The museum is open Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday from 11am to 4pm. Whilst you are there take a look at their collection of paintings and prints of the Wye Valley, from the days of the Picturesque movement and The Wye Tour.
