Public Transport

Travel lightly with our Public Transport Map for the Wye Valley Walk.

We know how difficult the physical logistics of a long distance walk can be so we teamed up with map maker Andy Stephenson from Point2guides to create a map showing where buses and trains link up with the route of the Wye Valley Walk.

Applying the principles of Harry Beck’s iconic London Underground map to the complexities of rural long distance walking wasn't as easy as it first seemed, but we hope this map will open up the options for using public transport. The Wye Valley Walk travels through the complex weave of Welsh and English borderlands, which is served by a patchwork of local bus and rail operators, including Transport for Wales and a number of smaller bus service suppliers. We have tried to simplify these links into a single diagram, allowing walkers to identify where a T4 bus or the Heart of Wales railway line intersects with the trail.

We hope this information will give you confidence to leave the car at home and travel lightly through these beautiful rural landscapes.

Bus Services

Hailing a Bus

Many rural services operate a hail and ride system, meaning passengers may be picked up or set down at any point on the route where it is safe to do so. Look out for the bus and as it approaches raise your arm to signal to the driver you wish to board. Buses may not stop at every bus stop so tell the driver where you wish to alight.
